Star Wars, Collective Unconscious, & the 10 Commandments

For folks from my generation, Star Wars is part of the collective unconscious. Even for non-fans, it has a place in our understanding of the world. Hence, when someone jokes to "use the force" or says "I am your father..." most people can relate it to the story of origin. So what happens when a person has never actually seen Star Wars? They know most of the story any way, or so it would seem. Here's a video (thanks Collide) of a person recapping the Star Wars trilogy without having ever seen it.

For many (in the Bible belt at least) the Bible forms the same kind of semi-understanding. It's quoted (and misquoted) regularly. Thus, folks misuse the idea of "judge not lest ye be judged" and ask me why the Bible says it's not okay to eat BBQ.
Beginning January 28th and continuing every 4th Wednesday, We'll be exploring this idea in an evening series on the 10 Commandments. Are they obsolete? Why were they written? Can we be perfect by keeping them?
Dress casual and join us at 6:30pm for a free covered dish supper and a refreshing look at God's Word. We'll begin teaching at 7:00pm, so try not to get dessert on your Bible.
