Welcome to the Pee Dee
Starting May 1st I'll be serving as pastor at Effingham Presbyterian church in Effingham SC. Just a few minutes from Florence, this community has lots of farmland and many families who have called the area their home for generations. Effingham Presbyterian celebrated their bicentennial not too long ago. As far as I know, they're the only Presbyterian church in Effingham, and the only Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Florence County.
Laura and I are looking forward to settling into our new community. The Pee Dee region of SC is broken into two parts: coastal and inland. We're living inland, which Wikipedia describes as
"...a belt featuring rivers, marshes, carolina bays and sandy rises where forestry is predominant, with pine plantations and baldcypress lumbering. Further inland, on higher ground, but still of only slight relief, is an agricultural belt of tobacco, cotton, soybeans and produce."For Laura, the move brings her closer to her home towns of Irmo and Lexington, SC. For me it will be a bit further from Greenville. We're happy to still be living in the Palmetto state.
