Favorite Online Study Resources
An older pastor recently asked, "Do you ever use the internet to help with sermon preparation?" Do I ever! Having a variety of resources at the click of a button helps me double-check my theology and gives greater depth to what I preach on Sundays.
- Greek Lexicon: Why did I take Greek, it's all here!
- Hebrew-English: Not as useful as the Greek site, but helpful any way.
- Christian Classic Etheral Library: Theological Heavies
- Calvin's Commentaries: He's called the "King of Commentators" Or maybe the Prince. Either way, he's good.
- Monergism.com: Funny name, deep theological depth.
- Wikipedia: Great for fact checking sermon illustrations and statistics.
- Strong's Search by Scripture: Cross-referencing and nuggets of truth.
- NIV Study Bible- Introductions: Quick and easy background on Bible.
- ESV Study Bible Online: My preferred translation. It's accurate, readable, and familiar to both KJV and NIV fans. Even better if you purchase a hard copy and get the access code.
- Biblegateway: compare translations, and easy cut & paste for PowerPoint. I've heard good things about YouVersion, too.
- PlanningCenterOnline: Keeps track of sermon series and upcoming services for me.
With all these wonderful online tools, it's tempting to just go and hammer out a sermon. I've found that an analog copy of God's word and a legal pad still yield the best foundation for Sunday morning.
