Art for Art's Sake: MUTO Wall Animation

MUTO a wall-painted animation by BLU from blu on Vimeo.

I read about this mural/video over at Collide, a Christian tech/ministry site. They pointed out how cool the video was, and how much more powerful it would have been had it had a meaningful message. I think I agree with them, but I have to also accept that sometimes things of beauty should simply be accepted for what they are: 'l'art pour l'art' as the French say (or, "art for art's sake")... those crazy French.

We run into this challenge in the church, as everything we do should glorify God and point to Jesus Christ. However, it could be argued that sometimes things may capture a glimpse of the divine even if they don't paint a full portrait. In other words, something like a sermon is explicitly Christian and about Christ, whereas a morning in the woods may be a time for Christian experience but not explicitly about Christ. To push it further, what does a church's architecture, color scheme, landscaping, etc. say (or not say) about Jesus Christ? Perhaps nothing, but we can't overlook such things.

Any way, I just thought you might enjoy the video-- even if you don't like the subject matter, the technique is pretty amazing.
